This is a picture of a cactus. The cactus has adapted to the desert life. Instead of having roots that continually collect water, they store water in their spine. This is so when the desert goes through long droughts, the cactus can still survive. The light color of the cactus's spines also provide shade for the cactus, so the cactus does not dry out during the desert's hot days.
