This is a picture of a day lily. The red, string-like things protruding from the day lily are filaments. These filaments are the stalks of the stamen, a part of the plant that produces the pollen. On top of the filament is the anther, which in the picture are the yellow fuzzy things atop the filament. The anther is the part of the plant where the pollen is literally produced.
